We hired Jim to put Everlast siding on our house, after reading positive reviews of Ellington Woodworks. We chose to go with Everlast Advanced Composite Siding for our siding project. When we first saw the j channels and trim on the front of the house, we assumed it was not finished. The edges were roughly cut, and the joints were not mitered; while the Everlast siding, itself, looked fine.

We were so unhappy with the appearance and quality of the j channels and corners, that we sent Everlast a letter about it. They were so concerned, they sent a rep to our house, who informed us that it was not their product. They made inquiries and informed us that Jim got two quotes from Richard's supply: one with Everlast corners and j channels, and one with cheaper, flimsy vinyl. Jim chose the vinyl without consulting us, no doubt to save himself money, in cost of materials.

We never had a chance to get the right product for our house. Now, we are left with the inferior product, due to Jim's decision not to inform. We are left to live with his poor judgement, or pay thousands of dollars, to correct for Jim's witlessness and ineptitude. We wanted this project to be a one-time home improvement; with improvement being the key word. Instead, we are out several thousands of dollars and years of regret for our choice of Jim and Ellington Woodworks. Speaking of Jim's ineptitude, he also hung shutters at different heights, leaving us with holes in the siding.

All he had to do, was to look at how the other shutters were hung. So now we have additional holes in our siding, again thanks to his lack of basic carpentry skills. If you Google "carpentry skills, " you should see a list of several skills a carpenter should possess to be successful. Of those skills, Jim certainly displayed deficits with regard to Communication, Attention to detail, and Problem solving.

He did not miter the window trim, and we are left with the "band aids" to cover up for the corners with the inferior product. He wasted thousands of dollars of our money by choosing an inferior product to mix with the Everlast. We would have gladly paid the difference to have better materials and are left, instead, with something that cannot be undone without paying 10,000 or more, thanks to Jim.

He also damaged some corners of our windows, by smashing them, leaving holes open to the elements. He was extremely motivated to leave the project. The only way to correct for the Jim's incompetence, is to pay thousands of dollars, where we already out of thousands of dollars that we will never recoup. We strongly do not recommend Ellington Woodworks. Our experience with Jim and Ellington Woodworks has left us with botched work, and anger and disappointment.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Could not be happier with Ellington Woodworks building our screened in patio and deck. Jim and Mark were an absolute pleasure to work with. Worked on our project consistently day in and day out to get it done in a timely manner rather than juggling many projects at once. Always showed up on time, were responsive, and continually kept us up to date on project progress.

Not once did we ever wonder if or when Jim would show up. Aside from the professionalism, the quality of the work and materials is OUTSTANDING. So many nuances throughout the project that really made the build first class and certainly things we would not have thought of to ask for. Jim and Mark clearly take pride in their work and it showed every day. We could not be happier with the outcome and can't wait to show it off to all of our family and friends!

Jim from Ellington Woodworks did an absolute FANTASTIC job on our backyard project, we could not be more pleased or happier with the finished project. Jim used top of the line materials and kept the project on schedule and followed through on every detail. Jim also arrived everyday at the exact time he indicated the day before. He delivered on his promise and we now have the most beautiful backyard in our neighborhood!

Ellington Woodworks was recommended to me by a neighbor who had previously used their services. I hired them to replace a leaky skylight, repair rotted fascia / soffit / chimney insert, roofing repair and general roofing work and gutter repair / covers. They showed up when they said they would, on time every day and with a great personality to boot.

The work done was fantastic and professional. I really appreciate that they fixed what I needed without adding extras like some other home repair companies do. The prices for the work were very reasonable. I would highly recommend using Ellington Woodworks services and I plan on hiring them for upcoming work that I still need done. I look forward to working with you guys again!

Mr. Ellington installed 2 skylights for us. He did an excellent job. He was meticulous and understood the importance of the appearance of the end result. He communicated well and frequently. Because the timing of the job was dependent on weather, he remained flexible and worked with us to get it done in a timely manner, but never rushing or trying to "squeeze it in." We are very pleased with the job he did for us and we would use him again.

After having conversations and getting quotes from other companies, we found Ellington Woodworks and knew within a matter of minutes, that we had finally found the right company. We had skywindows and an exterior door replaced and deck railing and steps replaced. Jim was so easy to work with, answering questions completely. I always knew what to expect each day.

We love our new windows and door. The deck railing and steps are beautiful and solid! The price was within our budget. If something did not need to be replaced, Jim was honest and told us. Honesty is a bit rare these days. I also truly appreciated how Jim and Mark respected our home and made sure nothing was left out at the end of their day, that could be a hazard to our grandchildren. We will only do business with Ellington Woodworks!

Ellington's Woodworks was a very professional company with high quality work. Jim replaced our windows and did work on our dormer. He was very prompt and arrived at the exact time he told us. We felt secure in his advice and knowledge. This was the second time we had Jim do work on our house. We highly recommend Jim and his company.

We've had Jim Ellington work on our older 1952 house several times, including a major addition/renovation in 1996. Hurricane Fran dropped a huge tree on the house in the middle of the project, and before the winds had died down Jim had chainsawed his way to our house to help us out. We had him back this year to update several things and as always, the quality of the work was excellent.

His estimates are fair, and he always does quality work. He cares about his clients, and he and his crew are pleasant to work with. I pretty much won't let anyone else work on my house.

We have used him for more than thirty years in now our second house. I regularly recommend him to people who ask including another neighbor a couple doors down the street. I first used him following the tornado that struck north Raleigh in 1987 which did $10,000 worth of damage to my house and was so happy that I have used him for a wide range of things ever since.

This includes repairs ranging from custom cabinets in my first house through replacement of skylights in the sunroom of my current house through leak repairs around my chimney to most recently redoing our guest bathroom and large deck. Most recently we had our guest bathroom completely redone - down to the floor joists and wall studs. We are extremely pleased with the result including a new shower, sink, etc.

In addition at the same time, we had Jim replace our rather large deck which was beyond showing its age with loose deck boards and other issues. We love the new deck including small deck lights added to several posts. About 10 years ago, my skylights were leaking during heavy rains and I had him take a look. He explained that skylights have types that are specific to the pitch of the roof line and whomever had installed the skylights in my sunroom had used the wrong 'class' of skylight for the roof pitch.

He replaced them ~10 years ago and I have had no problems since. He is one of only a couple of authorized contractors for Velux brand skylight he installed. I have many stories of quality service and work from him through the years including oversight of subcontractors who did work for him. Jim was so unhappy with the caulking job a subcontractor did when painting my first house that Jim made the subcontractor recaulk the outside of the house plus paint several interior rooms for me to 'make it right'.

He is not the cheapest person you will find - I would put his prices at above average - but he does the highest quality work. You can easily find cheaper but I think your will have a hard time finding someone who does better work.

We have used Ellington Woodworks five times and have always been impressed with their work. I call Jim Ellington and he comes by and diagnoses the problem, gives me an estimate, then does an amazing job for the estimate or less! They have replaced skylights, windows, and large sections of our roof. He is one of the most competent contractors I have ever worked with! You will always get high quality work for a fair price! Excellent

We recently hired Ellington Woodworks to install two Velux skylights in our screened porch. We also had an attic fan installed. We are very pleased with the work. Jim was very helpful, professional and completed the work as scheduled. We would highly recommend Ellington Woodworks Inc.

We hired Ellington Woodworks for three separate projects about three years apart. The first project involved installing a Velux skylight in our bonus room, the second project involved repairing tow skylights{installed by others} and the third project involved installing a new Velux skylight in our third floor bonus room. They were extremely professional, courteous and knowledgeable.

We can highly recommend Jim Ellington with Ellington Woodworks Inc. We had 11 Velux skylights installed and all of our double hung windows replaced with Kolbe brand windows in 2006. They produced a firm and concise contract for both projects. The work was completed efficiently and professionally.

Ellington woodworks installed two beautiful skylights in our house. Definately the nicest most responsive contractors I have ever spoken with. While he was here, I was able to ask him many questions about other things in my house, and he was very good at anticipating and explaining things to me.

Mr. Ellington did a great job describing what I needed, where to locate, and other important facts about skylight installation. I really like the skylights that were installed, and he [Mr. Ellington] did a fantastic job with the [skylight installation], along with a rustic valance.

A roofing company not only damaged 2 skylights but also installed the wrong flashing kits on them when reroofing my home. I was fortunate that the roofing company then hired Jim Ellington to replace the skylights as he is one of the most professional contractors I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

I had Mr. Ellington come look at my leaking skylight after another contractor failed to follow through with completing the work. Mr. Ellington came out immediately to look at my skylights and was able to tell from the ground that both skylights were installed incorrectly and needed to be fixed.

I've had Mr. Ellington do carpentry work in my house on four different occasions over the past 10-12 years, and he does a fantastic job! The jobs included installing a large skylight on the north side of my house, installing a new 8 ft.
