If you are a residential gardener (organic or not) or if you like to pay extra attention to your landscaping, controlling pests is most likely a big part of your routine. They are called pests for a reason. Some of them sting, bite or injure, and others destroy your plants, lawn, flowers, fruit trees, or your vegetable garden.

We recommend doing a little research to figure out what pests you have just so that you can be educated on what you're dealing with. There are certain pests that are beneficial that may not seem like it. For vegetable gardens, there is a certain type of wasp that can help control tomato horn worms.

Ants

There are many types of ants all over the world. The most common ant in Southern California is the Argentine ant. Argentine ants are a common household pest, often entering structures in search of water or food. Typically during the hot season or to escape flooded nests during periods of heavy rainfall.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs have been around for centuries. Recently they've made a major comeback in the United States, having infested hotel rooms and people's homes from coast to coast. They feed exclusively on blood, and their favorite is human blood. They are mostly active at night, but not entirely. They prefer to live in warm rooms near beds, bedding or sleep areas that are close to their hosts.

Cockroaches

In Southern California, Cockroaches can be quite a nuisance if not treated. Cockroaches are the #1 cause of allergies and asthma. They can also transport potentially dangerous microbes, and to top it all off, they can leave an offensive odor. The most common Roach in Southern California is the German Cockroach.

Termites

Termites mostly feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of leaf litter, wood, soil, or animal dung. These pests that can cause serious structural damage to buildings, crops or orchards. Termites live in colonies that number from several hundred to several million individuals.

Spiders

When people think of spider control they imagine John Goodman wielding acidic pesticide in a perilous battle with poisonous spiders out for human blood. While Arachnophobia may have been a hit in the box office, in reality spiders are more interested in eliminating the flying insect population.

Oxley is the Best! When I first moved into my home, we had ants, and it was war. I tried really hard to get rid of them myself and only seemed to make the problem worse. I finally gave up and called Oxley Pest Control to come out and see what they could do. Full review ›

The Rodenator is a safe, humane bakersfield pest control way to control burrowing rodents from parks, fields, yards and playgrounds. David Oxley from Oxley Pest Control shows us how it is used in a local park in Bakersfield, California.
Hi, I'm David Oxley with Oxley Pest control. Right now it's flea season. Fleas love to come out and they thrive between 70 and 80 degrees with 70 to 80% humidity, and springtime is wonderful for that. What we need you to do is think about where your fleas are coming from.
A flood hits a fire ant colony in the Amazon jungle. An amazing chance to see footage on how the species has adapted to water to protect their queen. From the BBC.
