Civil Engineering

The deterioration of our nation's infrastructure has been news for several years. Municipalities have water and sewer systems that are over a century old and treatment plants that can no longer comply with ever-changing, stricter regulations. Our road and highway systems cannot keep up with constantly increasing volumes of traffic.

Surveying

Hurt & Proffitt's survey department offers some of the most diverse and experience-based expertise on projects in both the private and public sectors of Virginia. With a number of active, practicing Licensed Surveyors whose combined years of experience with Hurt & Proffitt total close to seventy years, the foundation of our survey department is solid and well-rounded.

Land Development

From Tidewater to the Piedmont to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia's topography is among the most beautiful in the world. It can also be among the most challenging to develop. Hurt & Proffitt's Land Development Professionals not only tailor our designs to fit the terrain, but we also adapt to meet the requirements of an ever changing, highly regulated environment.

Geotechnical

Geotechnical Engineering should be at the forefront of every construction project. The design considerations, whether Structural, Civil or Utility oriented greatly depend on the subsurface soil's structural capacity and composition.

Environmental

Environmental Engineering plays an important role in the planning, design and construction of projects ranging in size from single-family homes to entire neighborhoods, from towns to cities, schools to state universities. The goal is to create sustainable developments that meet the needs of citizens now and in the future while minimizing the human impact on the natural environment.
