We asked for a ceiling mounted storage device to be installed in our garage as well as for a free standing sink to be swapped out for a larger version. The ceiling mounted storage needed to be assembled and had instructions similar to ikea furniture. He had issues following the instructions and spent the first hour laying the storage mount out on the ground and parsing through the instructions ($95 of time) -- I ended up spending 1.5 hours of my workday helping him assemble. Finished the day by mounting the equipment and making sure it was ready to be hung on the second day.

On the second day he hired additional help, which we approved. But he also rented equipment which we had not approved and was hand wavey about the cost, saying it should only be around $40, failing to mention that the second man's time would be up-charged by about an hour and a quarter for what we are assuming was the time to return the rental. Overall we felt there was about $250 in fees that were unnecessary or were not communicated to us. Additionally, he swapped the sink out quickly but left saying it may leak in the future. Overall, was very pricey and he did not want to give firm estimates on cost. Appreciate that the job got done, but would not use again.

We hired John to hang a large and heavy mirror at our condo. He was incredibly responsive in connecting back with me and showed up right away to do the work. As I had not yet marked where the mirror was to go, he went above and beyond, working out the placement with me and then, SOMEHOW getting it hung on the wall. John even took the time to clean up after. We will definitely use him again and would highly recommend!

Recently, I needed help repairing a cedar shake fence that had been vandalized and was concerned that the damage would spread if not repaired promptly. I called John and he was able to repair the fence within two days. John also replaced a broken glass pane in our dining room door. I could not be more pleased with the quality of his work and his prices are more than fair. John is easy to work with and communicates clearly. I highly recommend you give him call the next time you need some work done around the house.

I had a wonderful experience with this company. I was looking to build an enclosure for my home patio, and met with a project manager for an estimate. He was extremely professional, walked me through every option, then did something I couldn't believe: he recommended an enclosure that his company didn't offer. And he did it because it really was the best option for my home.

I was so impressed by his willingness to sacrifice business to do the right thing for his customer that I promised to keep him and Capitol Hill Handyman in mind for future projects and referrals. You'll get honest, good service in a very professional manner.

John did a great job with troubleshooting and resolving a switch and lighting issue in my house. Same day service, very reasonable price, and my hallway lighting works perfectly. My 1920s home has repair needs all over the place and 2019 will be the year that John comes back and fixes every last one of them. Very strongly recommend.

John did great work, was extremely pleasant to work with (very flexible and great/easy communication on txt and phone) and is reasonably priced. What else could you want? He replaced wooden railings (with vertical slats too) on either side of my front deck got started and finished quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again for future projects.

John helped me with a number of tasks around my home including curtain rod installation, repairing a damaged window sill and trim piece, hanging a large mirror, and patching a small hole in my wall. My home was built in 1911 and still has original plaster walls so I was nervous to do this work myself (having only lived in home built using drywall). John did a great job with all the tasks - he was fast and efficient and cleaned up after the work was done. I'm glad John lives close to me, I plan on having him back out for any more projects I need done!

John helped repair my front door lock. The old lock got stuck and I had tried everything (including enlisting friends who are handy) to remove the old lock. John had the equipment and patience to get the old lock dislodged and he installed new hardware that I had purchased.

John helped repair my front door lock. The old lock got stuck and I had tried everything (including enlisting friends who are handy) to remove the old lock. John had the equipment and patience to get the old lock dislodged and he installed new hardware that I had purchased. It is a good thing John was there to install the new hardware because the hole in the door wasn't big enough for the new handle. John knew exactly what to do. John comes highly recommended and I am glad to be able to use my front door again.
