Alpine Insulation Solutions The mission of InsulWise Energy and Comfort Solutions is to change the way homeowners think about making energy efficiency and comfort improvements to their homes. In the past, if a home was cold in the winter and expensive to cool in the summer, the homeowner was typically left guessing about the cause.

Perhaps the wife thought it was the windows, whereas the husband was sure it was the old air conditioner. The only sure thing in this equeation was that whichever sales person came through the door first was going to "have the solution." At Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions, our mission is to empower homeowners to make the best decisions possible when improving the comfort and energy efficiency of their homes.

Basement
Report
Many homes have basements that are cold during the winter. A key reason is air infiltration that comes through the rim joist area. The rim joist is where the wooden frame of your home sits on top of the block wall foundation. This area is naturally porous due to two different building materials being sandwiched together (cement block and wood).
Cape Cod
Report
Because if you own one you know that they're extra special! With few exceptions there is no other home type that is more consistently cold during the winter and hot during the summer! The reason for this is their unique construction that promotes high levels of air leakage and intense heat transfer from the roof to the rooms inside.
Floor
Report
If you have a room over a garage, your floors will often be cold because when your home was built, the floor insulation was not installed so that it was in direct contact with the floor above. When insulation is not in direct contact with the surface it is intended to insulate, convection currents form - and cold floors are the result.
Wall
Report
In the last 15 years, the process of 'dense packing' walls with cellulose insulation has become the established best practice for insulating the walls of existing homes. When installed under pressure, cellulose insulation will insulate a 2×4 wall to approximately R-15, eliminate cold drafts, make your home much quieter by sharply reducing street noise, and NEVER settle over time.
Attic
Report
The big deal with your home's attic insulation in the Pittsburgh area is that it's the most important component in your home's thermal barrier! This is because during the winter, the bulk of your home's heat loss occurs through the attic (because heat rises).
