In 1938, Jack Starnes founded Valley Roof and Insulation Co., of Chico, CA. After 12 years of running the business, he decided to partner with his two sons, Ted and Robert Starnes. They renamed the business Butte Roofing Company in March 1950, and a new era was born. In 1963, after Jack passed away, Ted and Robert took over the company.In 1964, Ted bought his brother's share to become the sole proprietor of Butte Roofing Company. Ted's son, Mike, began roofing with the company in 1972 after graduating high school. Ted ran a successful business and retired in 1997, leaving his son, Mike, to run the company.
