David and I are third generation hardwood flooring contractors. We grew up and learned the hardwood flooring trade from our family near Springfield, MO. In 1993, we started our own labor company, Bird Hardwood Floors. Over the years we have seen the introduction of all types of hardwood and "look-alike" flooring.

Originally, all we did was the traditional solid hardwood flooring that was installed, sanded, and finished in house. But with the advance of finishes and the structural stability of engineered and pre-finished flooring, we found ourselves being asked to install this type of flooring more frequently.

Laminate

Many consumers get confused and call this type of flooring Laminate Wood Flooring, but the visual face of the floorboards are not real wood. It is actually a high quality photograph of wood, bonded to a melamine center core. Several layers of a protective finish are applied over it making it very durable.

Hardwood

Engineered wood is produced with three to nine layers of wood that are bonded together under heat and pressure, with the top layer being the actual flooring material. Engineered wood is less likely to be affected by changes in humidity and is the most stable hardwood flooring for most areas of your home.
